Sexual Assault

WOAR Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence, a Philadelphia-based sexual violence crisis center, operates a satellite office on Main Campus to provide 24-hour support to survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence.

WOAR’s 24-hour hotline is 215-985-3333

Additional information can be found at https://www.woar.org/

The service will act as a third party not associated with Temple, where students can report incidents of sexual assault. Upon calling WOAR’s 24-hour hotline, a Temple student who wants to confidentially report an incident of sexual violence will receive support and counseling from a trained WOAR volunteer. If an in-person meeting is requested, a WOAR representative will designate a location to meet on campus. The representative could also arrange transportation for medical treatment and accompany the survivor to get whatever help or services he or she needs.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services can provide you with testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and emergency contraception. However, Student Health Services is unable to provide a “rape examination” intended to collect forensic evidence for use during any future legal action through the criminal justice system. In Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center (PSARC) conducts rape examinations. Student Health Services can assist in facilitating referrals to Tuttleman Counseling Services and the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center.

Tuttleman Counseling Services

Tuttleman Counseling Services provides counseling and assistance to persons who have been forced to have sex against their will through the Sexual Assault Counseling and Education (SACE) program.

Services provided in Student Health Services and Tuttleman Counseling Services are strictly confidential. Student Health Services and Tuttleman Counseling Services employees are not mandated reporters.

Here is the information you need to report an incident of sexual misconduct.

The Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center

The Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center (PSARC) was established in 2011 to meet the forensic and medical needs of sexual assault victims who are 16 years of age and older. PSARC is a private, not-for-profit center that provides expertise in the assessment and evaluation of sexual assault victims in Philadelphia. All services are provided in private, medical office setting located adjacent to the Special Victims Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department. This unique setting allows for private, confidential, victim-centered care.

The center is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, by on-call, specially trained and experienced Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) who provide forensic rape examinations and evidence collection to both females and males. The SANE staff are all highly trained, compassionate nurses with years of experience in the care of sexually assaulted patients.

PSARC works closely with the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, WOAR and the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Advisory Committee to provide a survivor-centered approach to sexual assault.

PSARC care for victims regardless of their cooperation with law enforcement. Accompaniment services, if desired, are provided by WOAR.

Services provided at PSARC include the following.

  • Forensic medical evaluation
  • Injury documentation
  • Forensic photography
  • Pregnancy prevention
  • Sexually transmitted infection prevention
  • HIV prevention
  • Follow-up care
  • Court testimony
  • Victim advocacy linkage
